Bigscreen's Big Move: Lowering Prices, Resuming Production, and a New Halo
In a surprising turn of events, Bigscreen has decided to shake things up in the VR headset market. The company has announced a permanent price cut for its Bigscreen Beyond 2 headset, bringing the price down to $959, a significant reduction from its previous $1,019 price tag. This move comes as a relief to consumers who have been eagerly awaiting a more affordable option in the PC VR space.
What makes this announcement even more intriguing is the inclusion of the Universal-Fit Cushion, a thin silicone light seal that offers both soft and firm varieties. This is a notable improvement from the initial launch in June 2025, where users had to submit iPhone facial scans for a custom facial interface. The introduction of the Universal-Fit Cushion in November was a welcome addition, and now it comes standard with the Beyond 2, making the headset more accessible and comfortable for a wider range of users.
But that's not all. Bigscreen has also resumed production of the Halo Mount, a significant development after initial negative feedback and a major redesign late last year. The Halo Mount, designed to better distribute the headset's weight, is now expected to ship in large volumes in October, with the company aiming to clear the preorder backlog by November. This is a positive sign for consumers who have been waiting for this accessory, as it promises to enhance the overall VR experience.
However, it's not all smooth sailing for Bigscreen. The company mentions that high demand and delayed freight shipments have led to very low inventory levels, causing some orders to ship within the same day, while others may take up to two weeks. This is a temporary setback, and Bigscreen assures customers that regular shipping times of 1-2 business days will resume by September 14th.
The Bigscreen Beyond 2 itself boasts impressive specifications, including a 116° diagonal field of view, a lightweight design of just 107 grams, adjustable IPD ranging from 48mm to 75mm, and a resolution of 2,560 × 2,560 per-eye. It supports a 90Hz or 75Hz refresh rate and features 6DOF tracking with SteamVR, as well as full-body tracking compatibility. The Beyond 2e model takes it a step further with onboard eye-tracking, making it a feature-rich option for VR enthusiasts.
In my opinion, Bigscreen's decision to lower prices and resume production is a strategic move that addresses consumer demand and market trends. The inclusion of the Universal-Fit Cushion and the Halo Mount further enhances the headset's appeal, making it a more competitive offering in the VR space. While the temporary inventory issues are a concern, it's a small price to pay for the overall positive impact on the VR community.
As an industry analyst, I find it fascinating to see how Bigscreen is adapting to market dynamics and consumer feedback. The company's willingness to listen and make adjustments is commendable, and it will be interesting to see how this affects the VR market as a whole. With the price cut and improved features, Bigscreen is certainly making a strong statement, and it will be intriguing to see how competitors respond to this move.
